Handle reports and evidence
What to collect, when to report to Discord, and when something is a matter for the police.
1. Turn on Developer Mode
So staff can copy user and message ids. Collect ids and message links before a ban that deletes messages, because they can’t be recovered afterwards.
2. Report to Discord the right way
Use Report Message or Report User Profile and include message links. Discord aims to review high-harm reports (child safety, violent extremism, imminent harm) within 24 to 48 hours. Don’t file duplicates or ask others to mass-report.
3. Emergencies go to the authorities
For a credible threat of violence or someone at immediate risk of self-harm, contact local emergency services. In the US, texting DISCORD to 741741 reaches Crisis Text Line.
4. Child safety
Report child sexual abuse material or grooming to Discord at once; Discord reports it to NCMEC. In the US you can also report to NCMEC’s CyberTipline (report.cybertip.org, 1-800-843-5678). Never share such material, not even with your staff.
5. Use member reports in Kipp
Members can report a message or a person to your staff with Kipp; reports arrive with the message excerpt (encrypted) and buttons to act.
