Keep teens safe in your community
Discord’s age rules, its teen protections, and what that means for your server.
1. Know the rules
Members must be at least 13 (older where local law says). Teens may not send or request sexual content, even with other teens, and servers for teen dating aren’t allowed.
2. Know Discord’s teen protections
Teens can’t enter age-restricted servers or channels, sensitive media is blurred or blocked for them, and DMs from people who aren’t friends go to message requests, so a moderator’s DM may land there. Moderators can’t see a member’s age group.
3. Label adult channels
Channels with adult content must be marked age-restricted. Turn on the explicit media filter for the rest.
4. Act fast on grooming
Treat any sign of an adult pursuing a teen as an emergency: remove them, keep the message links, and report to Discord.
5. Point parents to Family Center
Family Center lets parents see their teen’s new friends, servers and who they talk to, without seeing message contents.
