Pick the right verification level, rules screening and filters
What Discord’s five verification levels really check, plus Rules Screening, Onboarding and the explicit media filter.
1. Know the five levels
None: anyone can chat at once. Low: a verified email. Medium: a verified email and an account at least 5 minutes old. High: also in your server for at least 10 minutes. Highest: a verified phone number. Discord recommends at least Low for any server whose invite is on the internet.
2. Raise it during trouble
During a raid, Discord suggests raising the level to High or Highest for a while. Kipp’s Panic Mode does this for you and puts it back afterwards.

3. Use Rules Screening in Community servers
Members must accept your rules (up to 16) before they can talk, react or DM other members.
4. Know what Onboarding changes
Onboarding (Community servers) asks new members questions and gives them roles and channels. It needs Manage Server and Manage Roles to set up, on desktop. Discord suggests pairing it with Raid Protection rather than a role-locked verification gate; if you use Kipp’s verification gate, check the two work together in a test account.
5. Turn on the explicit media filter
Server Settings › Safety Setup: scan media from members without roles, or from everyone. Age-restricted channels are skipped. This matters even more if teens are in your community.
6. Add a check Discord doesn’t have
Verification levels can’t tell a banned member’s new account from a real newcomer. Kipp’s web check spots alt accounts and ban evasion with one-way fingerprints that are different in every server, so Kipp never keeps anyone’s IP address.
