Stop a raid in progress

A step-by-step response to a join raid or spam wave, using Discord’s own tools and Kipp’s.

  1. 1. Stop new people joining

Use Discord’s Security Actions to pause invites (existing invites aren’t deleted) and pause DMs between members who aren’t friends. They’re in the server menu, the Members tab and on Activity Alerts. Kipp’s Panic Mode and lockdown do this and more in one press.

  2. 2. Slow the chat down

Turn on slowmode in busy channels, make AutoMod stricter and raise the verification level to High or Highest. Kipp can lock chosen channels and put everything back exactly when it’s over.

  3. 3. Remove the raiders

The Members page flags unusual DM activity, unusual account activity and members AutoMod quarantined. Discord’s bulk ban (Manage Server and Ban Members, with a 2FA or password check) or Kipp’s /massban remove them quickly. Collect user ids first if you plan to report them.

  4. 4. Report the raid to Discord

Community servers can use Report Raid (Ban or Kick Members, on desktop). Discord’s Raid Protection can also require a CAPTCHA from new joiners for the next hour after it spots a raid.

  5. 5. Reopen carefully

Unpause invites, turn off slowmode and end Panic Mode once joins look normal. Then look at how they got in (a leaked invite, a partner server) and tighten Kipp’s Join Gate for next time.
