Discord limits every moderator should know

The numbers behind the tools: audit log retention, timeouts, bans, bulk delete, roles and channels.

Open in Kipp’s docs

  1. 1. Audit log: 45 days

Discord keeps audit log entries for 45 days. If you need longer, keep your own copy (Kipp’s audit log copy posts every entry to a channel you choose).

Dashboard: Settings › Audit log copy

  2. 2. Timeouts: 1 week in the app, 28 days through bots

The app offers 60 seconds up to 1 week. Bots can set a timeout up to 28 days ahead. Timed-out members can’t send messages, react or join voice.

  3. 3. Bans can delete up to 7 days of messages

When banning, up to 7 days of the member’s messages can be deleted. Bots can ban up to 200 members in one bulk request. Discord recommends deleting no history unless they posted spam.

  4. 4. Bulk delete: 2 to 100 messages, under 14 days old

Bulk deletes skip messages older than 2 weeks, so old messages have to be deleted one by one.

  5. 5. Server caps

250 roles, 500 channels (text, voice and categories together), 50 channels per category, 999 invite codes. Members can be in 100 servers (200 with Nitro).

  6. 6. AutoMod and Rules Screening

See “Get the most from Discord’s built-in AutoMod” for AutoMod’s limits. Rules Screening takes up to 16 rules.
